Instead we will again share several cactus-related videos from YouTube, before and after an extended break. These will show short travelogues and our hobby in the parts of the world that we do not usually hear about.    As well as donations for the buffet, we are looking for donations  as special Christmas raffle prizes please.  Entrance fee is £3, a raffle ticket is £1. Nov 6th, 2023   7:45 pm Hatch End Dr John Hughes from Bromley will return with a new presentation: 'Holambra, Brazil, Home of Horticulture'. This is about a unique Brazilian city and its garden centres and major cactus nursery, which is the largest one in South America.    As usual, there will be a raffle and sales plants. Entrance fee is £3, a raffle ticket is £1.    Please bring cacti and succulents for display in the four table show classes:  Parodia Group (incl. Notocactus, etc.); Echeveria Subgroup (incl. Dudleya); any cactus; any succulent or any other plant of interest (there is a 6 1/4" pot restriction).  Oct 2nd, 2023   7:45 pm Hatch End Ron Crawford will present a talk with plants and slides about caudiciform succulents. Ron is currently secretary of Clacton Branch in Essex.  There will be more sale plant bargains from the collection of the late Tony Porter that need to find new homes, included some small Conophytums which are now growing. We thank Martin Edwards for facilitating this for branch members.  They are sold in aid of Cancer Research and Harrow Branch funds equally.   As usual, there will be a raffle and sales plants. Sep 4th, 2023   7:45 pm Hatch End Richard Bleay will entertain us with two very different sessions. The first half will be a cultivation workshop about the popular genus, Echeveria. Richard will lead discussions about composts, repotting, watering, propagation, etc. in answer to your cultivation questions. So this month, we ask everyone to please bring their Echeverias plants for discussion and to let other member see what sorts are grown in our area.  In the second half, a presentation will feature his "Favourite Plants Digitised". Richard is one of our most accomplished growers with many decades of experience and has enjoyed much success at shows.    As usual, there will be a raffle and sales plants. Entrance fee is £3, a raffle ticket is £1. Aug 7th, 2023   7:45 pm Hatch End AGM and a workshop covering a wide range of cultivation topics "everything-but-the-kitchen-sink" prepared by our Brian Ayres. If you have any cultivation questions we will endeavour to answer them.  Notice: There will be a couple of large trays of sales plants from the collection of the late Tony Porter. These need new homes and will be sold for modest prices, in aid of Cancer Research and Harrow Branch funds. Please clear some space and help if possible. There are also trays of small Opuntias, Conophytums and Agaves for sale if anyone wants in an 'instant' collection. Also available is a 10 x 8.5 ft. al. greenhouse with glass in bits (never erected) and two large al. garden frames, the larger with one with roofing glass. June 5th, 2023   7:45 pm Hatch End Tony Mace from Sussex will present "The Stapeliads of Barad, Land and Harp",  succulents with spectacular flowers. Tony & Suzanne Mace are stalwards of the society with a very large greenhouse full of c&s that has appeared on TV and currrently distribute publications for the BCSS.  They will join us remotely via Zoom to give the presentation.   As usual, there will be a raffle and sales plants. Entrance fee is £3, a raffle ticket is £1. May 1st, 2023   7:45 pm Hatch End David Ilett from South London will present "The Year in Flowers"  David runs our BCSS YouTube site, also creating much of the video content. Apr 3rd, 2023   7:45 pm Hatch End Mike Partridge (Secretary at Bromley Branch) will continue the story of his travels through spectacular scenery with "Patagonia Part 2".   As usual, there will be a raffle and sales plants.    Please bring cacti and succulents for display in the four table show classes:  Echinocactus Group (i.e. incl. Ferocactus); Gasteria Group; any cactus; any succulent (there is a 6 1/4" pot restriction) or any other plant of interest.  Mar 6th, 2023   7:45 pm Hatch End We will hold a cultivation workshop, more interactive than usual. Elizabeth Pendleton will lead discussions about composts, repotting, watering, fertilizers, greenhouse management, etc. (time permitting!). Title: "Staying alive! A round table on how not to feed the compost heap". We will also cover propagation and there should be some cuttings to give away afterwards? A panel of experienced branch members will assist Elizabeth with a broader range of experiences.  We ask everyone to bring for discussion (if possible) a sample of their own potting mix (a glass jar would be an ideal container) and any problem plants, e.g. cold damaged. Questions will be welcome and we will do our best to answer. As usual, there will be a raffle and sales plants.
